In our family, when it comes to skin, it’s not a matter of if you’ll get cancer—it’s a matter of when. Living in Texas and wanting to protect our skin often meant the sun dictated when our walks could happen. Waiting until sunset wasn’t always realistic, and stepping out earlier came with trade-offs.

Sunscreen never felt sufficient. Hats faulter except at high noon. Regular umbrellas sacrifice style. Some days we just didn’t want to plan our movement, our outfits, our routines around avoiding the sun. Protecting ourselves physically was negatively affecting our mental health.

That quiet frustration turned into a question: why isn’t there something that offers real protection but feels like us? Inspired by the elegance of a Victorian parasol but made for modern life, our sun shield was created to bring ease back to something as simple as a walk.
